The National Basketball Association just held the 2011 NBA draft wherein top names have been chosen to be part of the team where they tend to fit that could start their journey to become NBA superstars.
In this year's draft class (where majority consider as a weak class), three names are often mentioned. The top two picks, Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams, and the tenth pick, Jimmer Fredette are the players who are on the tip of the tongues of NBA fanatics that discuss about how these players would stand out in the NBA after they had established their names from their respective college basketball careers.
Being picked by the Milwaukee Bucks as the 10th pick of the 2011 NBA draft, Jimmer Fredette has been suddenly shipped to Sacramento during the draft night. The Kings planned to draft a promising point guard that could do the ball-handling chores to provide Tyreke Evans a lot of space and opportunities to score. It was once rumored that the Kings preferred to choose the 6'3" Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight to fill in that spot. However on that night, the Kings opt to pick the 6'9" forward Bismack Biyombo from Congo that was suddenly used as an object for the 3-team deal that enabled them to acquire Fredette from the Bucks. This guy can shoot it efficiently beyond the arc and from all spots and all angles. For that reason, he had been the 2011 NCAA Division I's leading scorer averaging 28.9 points per game. Some sports analyst consider his game as similar as that of Stephen Curry's game. The only thing is that Fredette has issues regarding his ability to defend faster, and stronger NBA point guards. Nevertheless he still have a lot of time to figure out the areas on which he needs to improved on for him to cope with the requirements of being a steady NBA player. With him and Evans in the back court and DeMarcus Cousins in the middle, the Kings will have greater chances of competing in the playoffs in the near future. View Fredette's Stats
To be able to compete in the NBA, one must possess the enough speed and size. Among all the draftees, the one who has the readiest size to bang bodies against the other NBA players is said to be Derrick Williams. In his college career, he was the go-through-guy of his team, the University of Arizona Wildcats, taking 16.5 possessions a game. Looking at that number, people might think that this guy is a ball-hog but mind you, he leads the league in True Shooting Percentage (69%) and Effective Field Goal Percentage (65%). Those numbers prove his efficiency and his ability to lead a team when it comes to scoring. Being chosen as the 2nd pick overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Williams looks to team up with an all-star player in Kevin Love, potential all-star talent in Michael Beasley, outstanding sophomore Wesley Johnson and the much talked about Spanish guard Ricky Rubio. These are exceptional talents that are expected to blossom in years to come. The only question for Williams is about his position in the team whether or not he starts or he goes off the bench to back up Michael Beasley. Yet, it is up to him to make a name for himself in the NBA. View Derrick William's Stats
There are no questions and debates about the number 1 overall pick. The Cleveland Cavaliers are really determined to choose the Australian native, Duke point guard, Kyrie Irving. The Cavaliers were lucky to have the 1st overall pick due to the sudden downfall after the departure of a superstar. It is to Kyrie Irving where they want to rely their future fortunes. Sports analysts compare his game in Chris Paul's game. Irving is the type of point guard who can lead the team by orchestrating the offense and finding open team mates at their comfortable positions. This is what the Cavs really need due to the deficiency in the offense. His ability to create plays for his teammates could solve that problem and that may build confidence for all the Cavs players. Yet, there are issues regarding Irving's readiness and preparedness to play in the level of competition in the NBA. Irving only played 11 games in his last season of college basketball due to injuries. His size also is a big question. Whether or not he could guard big guards like that of Deron Williams, Andre Miller, Ricky Rubio and etc. His athleticism and speed is also doubtful. He may be easily blown by fast guards like Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Russel Westbrook and etc. Still, it is too early to judge. There are lots of room for improvements. View Kyrie Irving's stats
